Applications Engineer - Fort Washington, PA
Michell Bearings is a global leader in hydrodynamic bearing technology, with engineering operations based at our headquarters in South Shields, UK. We also operate a manufacturing facility in Bangalore, India, and U.S. locations in Philadelphia, PA, and Sioux Falls, SD, where we’re expanding capabilities to become a manufacturing hub. We are currently seeking an Applications Engineer to join our growing MB Inc team. This role will focus on external sales across the Americas—primarily the USA and Canada, with limited coverage in select Central and South American regions.
In addition to sales, the role includes application engineering support with no geographic boundaries, acting as an extension of our global UK-based team. You'll be involved in the development of technical solutions and tendering activities, particularly for customers in North America. Our core markets include industrial sectors such as power generation, oil & gas, petrochemical, and water, as well as marine propulsion for both merchant and naval vessels. To thrive, you should have:
- Recognized qualification in Mechanical Engineering (degree or equivalent preferred).
- Solid understanding of rotating machinery in industrial and marine applications.
- Proven experience with international and domestic travel; culturally adaptable.
- Skilled in commercial negotiations with knowledge of business terms and conditions.
- High computer literacy, valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel as required.
Your responsibilities as the Applications Engineer will include:
- Lead regional sales efforts by engaging with customers across the Americas, promoting products, securing tender opportunities, and supporting contract negotiations.
- Prepare and manage tenders by assembling cost estimates, coordinating with the Estimating Team, issuing quotations, and converting tenders into orders.
- Capture and translate customer requirements into technical specifications for tailored bearing solutions across industrial and marine markets.
- Produce engineering proposals using design software to generate calculations, models, and conceptual bearing designs aligned with customer needs.
- Support internal project delivery by participating in specification reviews, ensuring export compliance, and assisting in contract execution and project management.
