School Board Executive Administrator
Summary:
The Board of Directors (“Board") of Hoosier Academy, Inc. (“Hoosier") is hiring a School Board Executive Administrator to coordinate the Board’s activities and serve as the liaison between the Board, School administrators, and staff.
About the School:
Hoosier operates the Hoosier College and Career Academy (“HCCA" or “School") pursuant to a charter issued by Ball State University (the “Authorizer"), offering a virtual curriculum to students in grades 7-12. HCCA’s mission is to provide personalized, virtual learning opportunities to all Indiana students regardless of circumstances and abilities. Utilizing research-based virtual platforms, Indiana Department of Education aligned academic standards, and meaningful partnerships, HCCA aims to prepare today’s learners for tomorrow’s ever-changing career and academic opportunities.
The Board is the Governing Authority responsible for overall governance of the School. The Board contracts with Stride K12, Inc. (“Stride") to serve as its Educational Service Provider. Stride is responsible for the School’s administration, management, and day to day operations.
About the Work:
As the School Board Executive Administrator, you will be responsible for the coordination of activities and timely flow of information to and from the Board and the School’s administrators and staff. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple tasks and projects with competing priorities and deadlines and to organize and maintain administrative processes. It is a full-time, primarily remote position, but the employee will be required to attend and facilitate periodic Board and committee meetings at the School’s administrative office in Indianapolis.
Responsibilities include:
- Create and maintain a database of Board policies, resolutions, and other documents
- Assist with Board member recruitment and work with the Authorizer to organize training sessions for new Board members
- Ensure compliance with Hoosier’s Conflict of Interest Policy and its Policy Regarding Criminal History, Child Protection Index, and Employment Reference Checks in connection with the appointment of new Board members
- Help the Board develop a process for evaluating the performance of the Educational Service Provider and coordinate the annual review process
- Set Board meeting agendas in collaboration with Board members and School administrators, including coordinating, scheduling, and attending planning sessions
- Coordinate, prepare, and distribute Board presentations and packets
- Facilitate, including management of technology needs, and attend meetings of the Board and its committees
- Prepare Board meeting minutes and ensure they are posted in compliance with the School’s Charter
- Coordinate with Stride administrative staff and the Board’s legal counsel to oversee compliance with corporate and regulatory directives, including the Indiana Open Door Law, the Indiana Access to Public Records Act, Hoosier’s By-Laws and Fiscal Policies and Procedures, the School’s grant-funded programs, and the School’s Charter
- Coordinate with Stride administrative staff to ensure compliance with any corrective action plan required by the Authorizer or regulators
- Attend educational and training sessions offered by the School’s Authorizer
- Coordinate communications between Stride and the Authorizer and serve as the Board’s representative in meetings with the Authorizer
- Coordinate with the Head of Schools regarding the posting of job openings for the School’s teachers and local administrative staff positions
- Participate in interviews for the hiring of all teachers and local administrative staff
- Manage Board responsibilities related to periodic charter renewal processes
Additional duties as assigned by the Board
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working in a regulatory compliance/audit/reporting setting or related education
- Experience in a virtual school model as a parent, learning coach, board member, instructor, or volunteer
- Technology skills, including but not limited to PowerPoint, Excel, and Zoom
- Experience working in human resources or related education
- Ability to communicate effectively and confidently, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to function well independently and to collaborate with a small team
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to handle details of a highly confidential and critical nature including financial reports, contract negotiations, personnel matters, and student information
Compensation
- $47,000-$50,000 annually. HCCA also offers an attractive benefits package.
